Good progress reported as Highland Council meets 89% of Programme commitments

The latest Corporate performance report shows that the Council is meeting 89% of its Programme commitments with 64 out of 72 being either completed, on target or maintaining performance.

Council Leader Margaret Davidson said, “This is an excellent report and I would like to thank staff across the Council who have contributed to this outstanding performance.

“There have been some really significant achievements with the signing of the City-Region Deal, our investment in roads, the progress with localism and strengthening our role as Corporate Parents. The retention of the Orkney ETV and the new link with Heathrow are also important developments this year.”

Cllr Davidson added: “Tackling deprivation is a priority for the Council and we are determined to do this together with our partners. Through our Programme, Highland First, we identified a number of areas of work to tackle deprivation, including building the local economy, making this a region to attract young people, reducing the attainment gap, achieving equality outcomes, welfare reform, fairer fuel and supporting affordable housing.

“Areas where I would like to see more progress would be shifting the balance of care for older people and building more social care services in our communities; and working with local partnerships to identify skills gaps and improve workforce planning for Highland.”
