Prisoners make friendship benches for Highland pupils.

Pupils at Tore and Ferintosh Primary schools have recently welcomed the addition of  ‘friendship benches’ made by prisoners in Porterfield Prison into their playgrounds.

Members of the pupil councils at Tore and Ferintosh Primaries recently wrote to Regimes Manager, Stan Petrie at Porterfield Prison in Inverness requesting the friendship benches after hearing of the one made for Conon Bridge Primary.

Lynne Caddell, Acting Head Teacher of Tore / Ferintosh Primary Clusters said: “Pupils at both schools are delighted with the benches, which are decorated with cartoon characters. Ferintosh bench depicts characters from the 101 Dalmatians  and Tore bench has Lady and the Tramp.”

The children are in the process of designing and making a ‘Friendship Stop’ sign to go with their benches.
