Consultation on review of Highland polling places continues

Following the first stage of the public consultation on the Review of Polling places in Highland, the Returning Officer has published proposals and further responses are now invited.

The aim of the review is to ensure that every elector in the Highland Council area has reasonable facilities for voting and that the polling places are accessible for all electors including those who are disabled.

In stage one elector’s were invited to comment on the current and proposed Polling Places.  A total of 27 responses were received and these can now be viewed on the Council’s website http://www.highland.gov.uk/info/799/elections_and_voting/718/review_of_polling_places

Following a review of the comments received during stage 1 of the consultation, the Returning Officer is inviting further comments on the draft proposals which are also available from the council’s website – www.highland.gov.uk.

The Council is particularly keen to hear the views from any person or organisation with expertise in access for people with any type of disability on the proposals on any changes to existing polling places.

The closing date for submissions is 5pm on Friday 20 January.

All representations will be open to public inspection and will also be published on the Council’s website.  This will include names and addresses; however, sensitive information such as signatures, email addresses and phone numbers will be removed.  The outcome of the review will be published on the Council’s website.
