Street lighting and traffic signals

Lighting design

We currently maintain a lighting network of:

• 55,000 street lights
• Illuminated bollards and signs
• 105 traffic signal and pelican installations

We use the WDM lighting management system to record data on our stock of equipment and to issue works orders. All of our design, installation and maintenance work is audited annually by the British Standard Institute.

In addition to lighting work the section also undertakes electrical installation and maintenance work in our offices, depots and harbours.

Testing

Our own electricians test our lighting networks. Structural testing of street lighting columns is carried out in line with current industry recommendations. Engineering staff undertake audits of lighting installations to ensure compliance and performance of lighting equipment.
