Sutherland Roads Capital Programme approved for 2026/27

Published: 16 February 2026

Members of the Sutherland County Committee have agreed a multi-year rolling programme of road works for the Sutherland roads capital allocation for 2026/27 onwards.

The agreed programme was approved prior to confirmation of the Area budget and confirmed at the Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 12 February 2026.

Members also noted that the Area rolling programme may require to be updated once results from the Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey have been received and considered.

The indicative local funding allocation for Sutherland (based on the 2025/26 figures) is £2,372,900.

Committee Chair, Cllr Richard Gale said: “I am pleased that we are ready to progress on road works for the coming financial year 2026/27 as soon as the funds are made available to officers. The rolling programme that Members have agreed will enable officers to start delivering the prioritised works and to react quickly if additional external funding becomes available in future.”

Councillors have agreed funding allocations for 220 specified and prioritised locations for capital works in a rolling programme, with delivery subject to available funding. The works include overlay and inlay, surface dressing, and edge strengthening schemes.

Details of the prioritised road works schemes for Sutherland County can be viewed in report appendix 2.
