We have appointed Threesixty Architecture to assist in the preparation of the town centre masterplan for Fort William.
In November 2023, they developed a draft Masterplan based on planning policy, local strategies, and guidance, informed by discussions with a range of key stakeholders and organisations. This was presented at a one-day public event at the Nevis Centre.
The Masterplan offers a vision which shows more town centre residential accommodation, an improved night-time economy, greater green space, new retail, culture, and leisure uses, and a shift in the relationship between the town centre of Fort William, the A82, and the waterfront by focussing on several key sites throughout the town centre.
Currently a programme of further community engagement is being undertaken on the Masterplan proposals. At this stage, the Masterplan is illustrative. Its purpose is to set out ideas and options as to how Fort William could develop. Along with input from the client team, the feedback received through community engagement will be used to develop a working Masterplan which will inform decisions about the infrastructure, development, and management of the town centre going forward.
The preparation of a bespoke Masterplan and delivery framework is key to provide a focus for town centre revitalisation and act as a stimulus for investment in a coordinated manner.
Delivering the vision and recommendations of the master-planning work will help direct the next phase of FW2040 overall and will guide the strategic work of the Board going forward.
