Funerals, graves and cremations
In line with both Scottish Government and UK Government’s advice to minimise social contact, we have taken the difficult decision to make some changes to our Burials and Cremations services.
Following Government instruction only immediate family can attend funerals. Please limit attendees to small numbers to minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19 and to protect both your family and our staff.
All reception areas are closed including Kilvean Admin Office in Inverness and Service Points. A list of our Registration offices with telephone contact details can be found on our website
There will be no transfer of ownership of lairs other than to allow a burial or cremation to take place.
Unfortunately, families will no longer be able to choose a lair in their preferred cemetery. As a result, families will be offered the next available lair in that cemetery.
Interment of deceased (including burial of cremation caskets) will continue, subject to changes above and appropriate social distancing.
The preparation of foundations for head stones has been suspended until after the pandemic.
Services will continue at the Inverness Crematorium, but are limited to the use of the large chapel and is subject to appropriate social distancing.
The layout of the large Chapel has been changed to promote social distancing. This has reduced its capacity and we are recommending the immediate family attending is no more than 25 attendees. In exceptional circumstances we may vary this. Given the risks from COVID-19 and the current Government advice we encourage bereaved families to limit immediate family members attending to as low a number as possible.
The organist service has been suspended.
Collection of ashes will be by appointment only, Please telephone 01463 644450 to arrange collection. Due to social distancing measures, only one person is allowed to enter the building when the collection takes place.
The Book of Remembrance at Kilvean will continue as before.
Please be aware that the above may be subject to change as we may have to introduce further measures as the situation develops.
