Council to consult on Nairn Common Good land.

The Highland Council is launching an 8 week Common Good consultation giving the Nairn community until 26 April 2019 to respond to a proposal to dispose (by lease) of an area of Common Good land to Nairn Sailing Club.

The Council is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal and all submissions will be given full regard before a decision on whether, and how, to proceed is made.

It is proposed that the current lease to the Nairn Sailing Club will be changed to incorporate an additional area of ground which will then be sub-let by the Sailing Club to Nairn Coastal Rowing Club. This is to provide an area for the club to store 2 skiffs and a road trailer. The current lease to Nairn Sailing Club runs until 2045 and the sub-lease will be of the same duration. Due to the period of time involved, the Council is required to seek the views of the community to the proposal though a formal consultation.

The Nairn Coastal Rowing Club has been in existence just over 12 months. It has 2 skiffs and a road trailer that require storage which cannot be accommodated within the existing area leased by Nairn Sailing Club. Coastal Rowing is a growing sport and the Nairn Club is keen to build on its current level of interest and continue to provide accessible participation to all in the community at the harbour. It also reflects the sea-faring traditions of Nairn, prioritises and educates about sea safety and has revived the age old skills of wooden boat building.

The consultation runs for 8 weeks and will close on 26 April 2019. The full consultation document and guidance is available at
