Candidates for Highland Council By-Elections Confirmed

Following today’s deadline for nominations, The Highland Council can now confirm the details of all the candidates that are standing in the Wick and East Caithness ward and the Inverness West ward by-elections.

The candidates for Ward 3 – Wick and East Caithness are:

  • CAMERON Michael James - Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • CHRISTIAN Harry - Scottish Libertarian Party
  • FERNIE Bill - Independent
  • ROSS Daniel - Scottish Conservative and Unionist
  • TILT Jill - Scottish Liberal Democrats

The candidates for Ward 13 – Inverness West are:

  • AITKEN Colin - Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • BANNERMAN Max - Scottish Conservative and Unionist
  • FORSYTH Iain Cullens - Independence for Scotland Party
  • LIPTROT Calum Mark - Scottish Libertarian Party
  • MACKINTOSH Ryan - Scottish Green Party
  • MACLEAN Kate - Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • MCDONALD Duncan - Independent


The Notice of Poll along with the Statement of Candidates nominated are available now from the Council’s website - www.highland.gov.uk/byelection

To vote at these by-elections, you must be registered. The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Monday 26 July 2021. To complete a register to vote application online  visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote  or alternatively telephone the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393 783 to request a paper application form.  Poll cards are being issued to advise registered voters that voting will take place between 7.00am and 10.00pm on Thursday 12 August 2021. However, if you are unable to vote at your designated polling station you can apply to vote by post or appoint a proxy which is someone who can vote on your behalf.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 27 July 2021. All postal voting packs will be posted out on Tuesday 3 August 2021. 

Wednesday 4 August 2021 is the deadline for applications for appointing a proxy vote and applications must reach the Electoral Registration Office before 5pm.
