Winter Road Conditions Report - 6 February 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Report for Tuesday 6 February 2024 are as follows:             

Inverness

07:06 - Low road surface temperatures with wet roads this morning and some snow on higher ground.  Treating all routes as best we can with current road closures.  Willl assess the network in daylight hours and open what we can.

Lochaber

07:07 - Wet with road surface temperatures above zero, no winter action required.  The A884 has reopened this morning after flooding yesterday.  The U1072 Camisky/Brackletter road has also re-opened.  No other issues reported overnight.

A844 Carnoch to Lochaline fully reopened.  B8006 Lochyside/Caol flood gates remain closed until flood warning lifted.  All other roads will be checked on a priority basis this morning.

Wester Ross

08:30 – Road surface temperatures well above zero, wet roads and no overnight issues.

Skye and Raasay

07:16 - Variable road surface temperatures this morning.  Generally colder than forecast.  No treatments scheduled.  Driver caution advised.  No overnight issues or road closures to report.

Nairn

07:32 - Frost and ice patches on higher routes this morning.  Surface water throughout the area.  All routes being treated.

Badenoch and Strathspey

07:35 - Negative temperatures throughout the area this morning.  All routes being treated.  No known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty East

07:57 - Lower ground, lots of running water odd sparkle to sections.  Higher ground, sleet and snow showers with sparkle in sections.  All primary, secondary and higher ground also checked and treated.

Caithness

08:12 - Negative temperatures in parts this morning.  A mix of wet roads with areas of standing water and patches of black ice and sparkly roads.  Weekend routes and footpaths being treated.  No known overnight issues to report.

Sutherland

08:24 - Wet roads with slush and snow deposits, up to 50mm on higher routes.  Very icy is some sheltered areas.  All routes currently being treated in order of priority.  No known issues.
