Dangerous and defective buildings

We are responsible for making sure dangerous and defective buildings are safe to the public. This is achieved by encouraging owners to take their responsibilities seriously and maintain their properties in a safe and secure manner.

However, there are cases where owners fail to take appropriate steps or when emergency action is required. In these cases, Building Standards Officers have powers under The Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and when required, these powers can and will be deployed to make buildings safe or prevent public access.

Report dangerous buildings to our Service Centre.
