Housing land information

Housing completions

We produce information on the number of new houses built in Highland based on completion certificates issued through the Area Planning and Building Standards offices.

In May 2018 a quality improvement exercise was carried out on data collected back to the year 2000. Historic duplicate entries for house completions were cleansed from this data and the updated figures with these removed are used from April 2018 figures.

This data improvement has resulted in a total of 363 records being removed from the previous 18 years of recording (an average of +20 per year across the whole Highland Council Area.)

Housing Land Audit 2017

This audit provides information on the available housing land supply to meet aspirations for the delivery of new homes up to 2031 using a base date of 1 June 2017. The audit allows us:

  • To monitor the availability of effective sites
  • To identify progress of sites through the planning process
  • To provide analysis on house completions

It details all sites allocated for housing in Local Development Plans throughout the Highland Council area, as well as “windfall” sites (sites of 4 or more houses which have received planning permission for housing).

For each site, information on permissions and completions has been collected and brought together with likely build rate of development on each site.

Consultation on a Draft Audit was carried out from Monday 17 July 2017 to midnight on Sunday 18 August 2017. Contributions were received from developers, housing associations and trusts, landowners, community groups and individuals. These comments were considered and resultant view for each site is contained in : The Housing Land Audit 2017.

Links to individual maps and schedules for individual settlement zones are provided in the audit report document – the same sites and programming can also be accessed through the following interactive map.
