Integrated Impact Assessment

Impacts considered

Each impact assessment considers impact on:

  • equalities, poverty and human rights
  • children’s rights and wellbeing
  • data protection
  • island and mainland rural communities
  • climate change

Children's rights and wellbeing impact assessment (CRWIA) assesses how a decision might impact on the rights and wellbeing of children and young people, based on the articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Childrens Rights are being incorporated into Scots law, making it unlawful for Councils to act incompatibly with the articles of the UNCRC.

Climate change impact assessment (CCIA) is a key priority of the our Net Zero Strategy and ensures that our Net Zero targets and responsibilities are embedded into the decision-making process. The CCIA assesses how a decision or proposal might negatively or positively impact on our emissions, regional biodiversity, as well as adapting to and building resilience to the effects of climate change.

Equalities, Poverty, and Human Rights Impact Assessment (EQIA) demonstrates our compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, which protects people with protected characteristics from discrimination and inequality of opportunity. In addition to assessing impacts on protected characteristics, we consider any socio-economic impacts in line with the requirements of the Fairer Scotland Duty and impacts on Human Rights.

Island and Mainland Rural Communities Impact Assessment (IMRCIA) assesses for impacts which are likely to have an effect on an island community or a rural mainland community which is significantly different from its effect on other communities, including other island communities. The islands element of this is a requirement of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018.

Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) ensures that personal data processed complies with the principles outlined in the UK GDPR and our Data Protection Policy.
