We are a team of Educational Psychologists (EP) and Home Visiting Teachers (PSHVT). We help to find solutions to improve the learning, social and emotional well-being and environment for all children and young people.
We take a positive approach to problems. We work hard to form good relationships with others. We are focused on the child and try to be evidenced based, reflective practitioners with a commitment to on-going innovative practice.
Psychological Service Home Visiting Teachers
The Psychological Service Home Visiting Teacher service is offered to the family of any child with additional support needs which may affect their development and learning. We work to support young children within the home and support their transition into Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) settings through consultation with parents and staff. We work in collaboration with families and other agencies to identify goals and demonstrate play and learning strategies to ensure a holistic approach to continued learning.
Request for involvement
Requests for involvement typically come through discussions relating to the Child's Plan and the child’s needs. We can provide informal consultation at any time; however, more direct involvement is generally negotiated with the EP or PSHVT in a Child's Plan /Solution Focused Meeting or through consultation. In almost all cases, involvement of the service would be with the consent and involvement of parents/carers.
A request for involvement to the Psychological Service does not always need to be from a school or ELC setting but can be from anyone who knows the child or young person well, including the child or young person themselves. If you have any concerns about a child's development, learning or behaviour, please contact us. Consent must be obtained from a parent or carer (and also from a child if over the age of 12), before discussing any child with a psychologist or PSHVT.

How we rate ourselves
The role of HM Inspectors is to support and challenge the service in its approaches to self-evaluation and to help develop an action plan for improvement. Therefore to coincide with the publishing of the report the action plan is available.
The most recent Education Scotland report noted:
'THCPS has a very strong capacity for continuous improvement... All staff are highly committed to continually improve their service delivery. The service has demonstrated their ability to respond to the needs of their stakeholders with agility and flexibility, providing high quality and some sector leading services over a large number of national and local priorities.'
