Altnaharra Primary School
We are seeking the views of local communities on the future of Altnaharra Primary School, which has been mothballed since February 2017.
The Council is proposing to discontinue the provision of education at Altnaharra Primary, and to divide the school’s catchment area between those of 3 neighbouring schools; Tongue Primary School, Farr Primary School and Lairg Primary School.
The views of parents, school pupils, the local community and others will be sought over a period extending from 27 August 2018 to 26 October 2018. A public meeting will be held on 10 October 2018 at 6.30 pm in Altnaharra Primary School.
Comments on the proposal should be submitted to Jacquelyn Jennett, Area Care and Learning Manager, Highland Council Offices, Drummuie, Golspie KW10 6TA, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or via the online form below. Comments should arrive no later than Friday 26 October 2018.

REVIEW OF THE PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH A GAELIC MEDIUM CATCHMENT FOR BUN-SGOIL GHÀIDHLIG LOCH ABAR
We have published the Final Consultation Report into our proposal to establish a Gaelic Medium catchment area for Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar.
The public consultation ran from 29 January 2018 to 16 March 2018.
The Final Consultation Report is to be submitted to the Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee on 18 October 2018.
The Director of Care and Learning has reviewed:
- all of the submissions
- the note of the meeting
- and the Education Scotland report
After carrying out the above review, the Director has concluded the proposal offers educational benefits and should be implemented. After reviewing the consultation responses, he has however concluded that the original proposal should be amended so that the English Medium catchment area of Invergarry Primary School should be included within the Gaelic Medium catchment of Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar. He will recommend this to the Committee.
Full details of the reasons for the recommendation are contained within the Final Report and associated papers, which can be accessed using the link below.
Between now and 12 October 2018, members of the public are invited to provide comments which will be tabled at the meeting of the Care, Learning and Housing Committee. This will allow Elected Members to take into account any further representations in relation to the recommendation contained within the Consultation Report, before agreeing a decision.
Comments on the proposal should be submitted to Ian Jackson, Area Care & Learning Office, Camaghael Hostel, Fort William PH33 7NE or by email to Education.Consultations@highland.gov.uk or via the online form below:
to arrive no later than Friday 12 October 2018.
