Guidance and advice
Listed buildings are buildings of special architectural or historical importance which are recognised by Historic Environment Scotland as needing special protection.
Any proposed alteration to a listed building, external or internal, that is considered to affect the building’s character requires an application to be made for listed building consent.
The proposed demolition of a listed building will always require building consent.
For more information, or to find out if you live in a listed building, visit Historic Environment Scotland. Alternatively, a copy of the list can be inspected at The Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness, or at your local area planning and building standards office.
