You should report:

  • a single dead bird of prey, swan, goose or duck
  • five or more dead wild birds of any other species (including gulls)

Suspect wildlife crime?

If you find a dead raptor or corvid and suspect wildlife crime:

  • do not touch the bird
  • contact Police Scotland on 101
  • ask for a Wildlife Crime Officer

Stay safe around wild birds

Wild birds can carry diseases that spread to people. Do not touch or pick up dead or visibly sick birds.

If you are walking in areas with lots of wild birds:

  • keep dogs on a lead
  • avoid contact with feathers, droppings or carcasses
