Smart ways to reduce waste and recycle more

Recycling items that are not collected at home

If you cannot put an item in our recycling bins, there are alternative options available to ensure it gets recycled.

Vapes and batteries

Do not put vapes or batteries in your household bins or public litter bins, as this is a fire risk.

Keep them separate and recycle them in designated facilities at local shops, supermarkets or Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Glass bottles and jars

Why not see if they can be reused in your home, garage or garden? Otherwise, recycle them at your local recycling point.

There are over 200 recycling points across the Highlands.

Soft plastic and plastic bags

Soft plastic and plastic bags are made of a range of lower-value plastics, which are difficult to sort and reprocess. They can contaminate other materials and become entangled in the sorting machinery.

Re-use your carrier bags or take them to a supermarket that has a recycling collection for bags.

Some soft plastics such as films, wraps and packets can be recycled at selected supermarkets.
