Investment
The Council is investing in a new secondary school building for Charleston Academy, scheduled for completion in 2030.
As part of the Highland Investment Plan, all new school buildings will be designed as Community Points of Delivery (PODs), with the flexibility to accomodate education provision alongside other community facilities, council services and partner organisations, within modern, locally accessible community hubs.
The Charleston Community Point of Delivery (PoD) will include:
- A new secondary school build
- A touchdown staff base, supporting a flexible and collaborative working environment for Council and partner agency staff.
- A four-court sports hall and two court gymasium and dance studio, available to book out of school hours.
- Community café that will enhance opportunities for recreation, engagement and interaction.
- Community hub, providing access to sports and drama facilities out with school hours and supporting health, wellbeing, creativity and social engagement.
Charleston Community Complex will be part of the new building.
Hub North Scoland is the Council's delivery partner for the Highland Investment Plan. Morgan Sindall has been appointed as the main contractor.
