Child protection

You and your child's rights

We have a legal duty to look into situations where a child may be in need of compulsory measures of supervision. In most cases, this follows on from somebody contacting us saying that they are concerned about the child's welfare.

Sometimes the staff who then look into the situations think that the child is suffering, or will suffer, significant harm unless action is taken to protect the child. This action is called an emergency protection measure.

If, because of this child protection order, your child is being looked after by us, then we have legal duties towards your child. The social worker or your solicitor will explain these to you.
