Heating policy for council buildings

Our heating policy

Our Heating Policy outlines our approach to heating our non-domestic property estate. It aims to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, provide comfortable temperatures for staff, and reduce both carbon emissions and utility costs.

Read our Heating Policy

While every effort is made to operate heating systems efficiently and effectively, the actions of staff, pupils, and users are equally important in maintaining a comfortable environment.

All building users should:

  • turn down or switch off heating before opening windows
  • ensure all windows are closed when a room is empty, especially overnight
  • avoid leaving external doors open to reduce unnecessary heat loss
  • report draughts and air leaks promptly
  • dress appropriately for personal comfort, as suitable temperatures can vary between individuals

For any queries relating to the heating policy or its application, please contact energy.engineering@highland.gov.uk.

Property Services are available to assist in identifying issues that can be addressed by building occupants, as well as those requiring specialist support.
