Eco-schools

Eco-Schools is a sustainable development award scheme for primary and secondary schools. It helps schools take practical action on environmental issues and supports learning for sustainability.

Eco-Schools can help with:

  • improving the school’s environment
  • reducing litter and waste
  • reducing energy and water use
  • finding sustainable ways to travel to and from school
  • promoting healthy lifestyles
  • encouraging active citizenship
  • building partnerships with community groups
  • developing international and global links

Awards in Highland

All schools in Highland have received an Eco-Schools (or greater) award since the programme began. Awards include:

  • 152 bronze awards
  • 148 silver awards
  • 100 green flags

Our Countryside Rangers are the main contact for schools working towards Eco-Schools status.
