Community food growing

We want everyone in the highland to have the chance to grow food. Growing food together helps people stay healthy, connect with others and care for the environment.

Our food growing strategy

We have a plan called Growing Our Future. It explains how we will support communities to grow food and make land available for projects.

By 2027 we want communities across Highland to:

  • have more chances to grow food
  • feel confident and supported to start projects
  • be more resilient and connected

Community food growing can take many forms:

  • allotments
  • community gardens
  • orchards
  • edible towns and villages
  • school growing projects

Growing food locally reduces food miles, supports wildlife and helps tackle climate change. It also improves health and wellbeing and brings people together.
