If you want to offer accommodation to someone from Ukraine, you can apply through the Homes for Ukraine scheme. This page explains how to apply, what you need to do, and what support is available.
Apply to become a host
If you want to host someone from Ukraine:
- you can offer a spare room or an empty home
- you can apply through the Homes for Ukraine visa scheme

What you need to do before hosting
Before you host someone, you need to check a few things:
- tell your mortgage provider
- get permission from your landlord if you rent
- speak to your housing officer if you are a council tenant
- tell your home insurance provider
Payments for hosts
If you host a guest from Ukraine, you may be eligible to receive a monthly Thank You Payment. Payments are made in arrears, subject to passing a property inspection and disclosure checks.
Council tax and benefits
Hosting someone will not affect your council tax or benefits. If you offer your property only for guests, we will apply a council tax exemption.
