Review of Proposal to Merge the Nursery Classes at Caol Primary School and St. Columba's RC Primary School, to Create a New Nursery Serving Both Schools

On 26 June 2025, we decided to merge the nursery classes at Caol Primary School and St. Columba’s RC Primary School.

Scottish Ministers were notified of the decision and provided with a copy of the Proposal Paper and Consultation Report. They had an 8-week period from the date of our decision to decide if they would intervene by issuing a call-in notice. We received confirmation on 13 August 2025 that the decision had not been called in by Ministers.

Discontinue provision of education at Kinlochewe Primary School

Review of Proposal to Discontinue Provision of Education at Kinlochewe Primary School

On 26 June 2025, we decided to discontinue the provision of education at Kinlochewe Primary School, reassigning its catchment area to Gairloch Primary School.

Scottish Ministers were notified of the decision and provided with a copy of the Proposal Paper and Consultation Report. They had an 8-week period from the date of our decision to decide if they would intervene by issuing a call-in notice. We received confirmation on 13 August 2025 that the decision to close Kinlochewe Primary School had not been called in by Ministers.

Gaelic Medium catchments for Craighill Primary School and Tain Royal Academy

On 26 June 2025 we agreed to the creation of Gaelic Medium catchment areas for Craighill Primary School and Tain Royal Academy.

The GM catchment area for Craighill Primary School will become the GM catchment area for the new Tain Primary School, once opened.

Badcaul Primary School

During 2024 and 2025, we consulted on a proposed closure of Badcaul Primary School. On 26 June 2025, we decided not to proceed with this proposal.

Establishment of Gaelic Medium catchment areas

On 19 September 2024 we agreed to establish new Gaelic Medium catchment areas for Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis, Dingwall Primary School, Millbank Primary School, Inverness Royal Academy, Dingwall Academy, and Nairn Academy.

Gergask Primary School

On 14 March 2024, we decided to discontinue the provision of education at Gergask Primary School, reassigning its catchment area to Newtonmore Primary School.

Scottish Ministers were notified of the decision and provided with a copy of the Proposal Paper and Consultation Report. They had an 8-week period from the date of our decision to decide if they would intervene by issuing a call-in notice. We received confirmation on 8 May 2024 that the decision to close Gergask Primary School had not been called in by Ministers. The school permanently closed on 8 May 2024.

Struan Primary School

On 14 September 2023, we decided to discontinue the provision of education at Struan Primary School, reassigning its catchment area to Dunvegan Primary School.

We received confirmation on 7 November 2023 that the decision to close Struan Primary School had not been called in by Ministers.
