What the committee does
The committee is responsible for overseeing a wide range of services and strategic functions.

Its remit includes:
- approving and reviewing policies, strategies and Service Plans for services within the Committee’s remit
- scrutinising the management of Revenue and Capital Budgets for these services, including monitoring, controlling and addressing over-expenditure
- scrutinising performance in service delivery and the implementation of strategy, policy and Service Plans
- reviewing the effectiveness, standard and level of services provided, in line with the Council's commitment to best value and continuous improvement
- making decisions about entering into partnerships, including consultation with other agencies, organisations and communities, to support collaborative and effective service delivery
- considering representations and consultations from Government and statutory bodies, and making representations to Ministers and those bodies regarding services within the Committee’s remit
- promoting sustainable development, equal opportunities and human rights in Council business and service delivery
- considering the impact of policies and decisions on communities, with specific attention to equality, poverty and rurality
- ensuring all decisions take into account resource, legal and risk implications
