What the committee does
The Sutherland County Committee (SCC) is a local decision-making body that supports community planning and oversees the delivery of council services in the Sutherland area.

Its remit includes:
- appointing the Chair of the Local Committee, who is responsible for running the committee and managing its functions
- appointing a Civic Leader where appropriate
- developing connections with the local community planning partnership and ensuring council support for the area covered by the committee
- implementing the council’s localism action plan as it applies to the locality
- scrutinising and monitoring the local delivery of council services, within approved resources and strategy
- scrutinising the performance of, and engaging with, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
- monitoring the delivery of council capital projects in the local area, as agreed in the council’s Capital Programme
- approving delegated local functions, including:
- road traffic orders
- road construction consents
- upholding access rights
- championing local initiatives that promote and support the traditional languages, heritage and culture of the Highlands
- dealing with requests for, and making nominations or appointments to, local outside bodies not covered by the council or strategic committees (for example, Local Access Forums)
- agreeing any local community engagement, including the work of Ward Forums in relation to council business in the locality
- considering proposals for community participation and the transfer of functions to community management or ownership, in line with council policies and guidance from the Communities and Partnerships Committee
- ensuring that all local decisions are within the terms of relevant legislation and the approved Scheme of Delegation to Committees and Officers
