The potential future re-development of the Belford Hospital site has been incorporated into the Town Centre Master-planning process (see the seperate Town Centre Masterplan project on the map) where proposals combine it with the adjacent former St Mary's school site. This would offer the potential for a co-ordinated mixed use development in an significant town centre location.
Current projections for the construction of a new hospital at Blar Mhor (see the separate New Hospital project on the map) are targeted to begin in October 2027 with an estimated operational date towards the end of 2030. Factoring in decommissioning this means the site is unlikely to be available until 2032 onwards.
