Knife dealers - Licences and permissions

Description

A licence is required for anyone dealing knives (this includes any object with a sharp point such as a sword).

You do not need a licence for:

  • folding pocket knives whose blades do not exceed 3.5 inches in length or knives designed for domestic use
  • kirpans or skean dhus whose blades do not exceed 3.5 inches in length
  • knife blades designed for domestic use
How to apply

You will need:

  • a credit or debit card
  • to have read our guidance notes
  • details of current licence (if applying for a renewal)

The application fee for a knife dealer's licence is £520.00 (for a 3 year licence)

The application fee for a temporary knife dealer's licence is £260.00 (A temporary licence is valid for a maximum of 6 weeks)
