Under repair
You might not have to pay Council Tax if your property is unoccupied and it is either:
- currently having or has had major repairs to make it fit to live in
- undergoing or has undergone structural changes (like major building work)
The exemption starts on the day the work begins and ends either:
- when the repairs or structural changes are finished
- 12 months after the property was last lived in
Whichever comes first.
If you have recently bought the property and more than 12 months have passed since it was last lived in, you may still be able to get a 50% discount for up to 6 months.
