Crofting Commission elections

The Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 was passed by the Scottish Parliament in 2010.

Elections are held every five years to elect six board members to the Crofting Commission.

Key points to note about the vote are that:

  • each croft is entitled to one vote
  • crofters who own or manage multiple crofts are still limited to a single vote

Electoral areas

The electoral area is divided into six constituencies. Each constituency elects one member for:

  • Shetland
  • Orkney and Caithness
  • East Highlands (East Sutherland, Easter Ross, East Inverness and Moray)
  • Western Isles
  • West Highlands (West Sutherland, Wester Ross, Skye and Lochalsh)
  • South West Highlands (Lochaber, Argyll and Bute, Arran and Cumbrae, Small Isles)

Next election

The next Crofting Commission election is due in March 2027.
