Voter ID for UK General Elections

Accepted forms of photo ID

If you are voting in a UK General Election, you must show an accepted form of photo ID at the polling station.

You may already have a document you can use.

Accepted photo ID

You can use the following documents.

Passports

Passport issued by:

  • UK
  • any Channel Island
  • Isle of Man
  • a British Overseas Territory
  • any EEA state
  • a Commonwealth country (including an Irish Passport Card)

Driving licences

Driving licence, including a provisional licence, issued by:

  • UK
  • any Channel Island
  • Isle of Man
  • an EEA state

Other accepted documents

  • Blue Badge
  • National Entitlement Card (concessionary bus pass)
  • identity card with a pass mark, for example a Young Scot Card
  • biometric immigration document
  • Ministry of Defence Form 90 (defence identity card)

Out-of-date ID

You can use some forms of ID even if they are out of date, as long as the photograph still looks like you.

Anonymous electors

If you are registered to vote anonymously and want to vote in person, you must apply for an Anonymous Elector's Document.
