How we ensure workplaces are safe
Along with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), we help to ensure workplaces are safe for employees and the public. This includes investigating complaints, inspecting premises, and offering advice to businesses.
We enforce health and safety in:
- Offices, shops, restaurants, and cafes
- Leisure centres, cinemas, and entertainment venues
- Retail warehouses and tyre and exhaust fitters
- Nurseries and childcare (non-school premises)
- Residential care homes
- Tattooists and non-medical therapeutic treatments
The HSE enforces:
- Garages and vehicle repair
- Construction and manufacturing
- Mobile workers (for example electricians or plumbers)
- Schools, colleges, hospitals, and nursing homes
- Agriculture
