When to register your vessel
You must register your fishing vessel with us if:
- your catch is exported directly or indirectly to any EU country
- your vessel’s home port is in the Highland Council area (for example, Scrabster or Wick)
Registration includes an inspection of your vessel.
You do not need to register your vessel if:
- the catch is only for your own use
- the catch is under 25 kilograms and sold directly from the quayside
Register your vessel
The food business operator or their representative must register the vessel. If you do not register, your catch may not be allowed for export to the EU.
You can only register one vessel per online form. If you have more than one vessel, you must submit a separate form for each one.
When approval is needed instead of registration
Some fishing vessels need to be approved rather than registered. This depends on the type of food activities you carry out.
If you are not sure whether your vessel needs to be approved, contact the fishing vessel registration team for advice.
