Campus development
A design masterplan has been prepared to guide the long-term strategy for the redevelopment of the Culloden Academy campus. This plan outlines the phased replacement of all existing buildings, with a new school facility designed to accommodate the growing student roll projected over the coming years.
Investment in Phase 1
In September 2021, an increased budget of £19.2 million was approved to support a larger Phase 1 extension and refurbishment project. This phase will deliver:
- new classrooms for Science, Art, and Home Economics
- refurbishment of vacated areas in the main building for use as:
- additional classroom space
- dining and social areas
- ancillary facilities
- construction of a new road junction off Barn Church Road to access the expanded site
Completed works
2021 improvements
The initial phase of work included:
- demolition of two vacant houses
- refurbishment and expansion of pupil toilet facilities
- installation of:
- six double-classroom modular units
- outdoor shelters
- a catering unit
Summer 2022 upgrades
During the summer holiday period, further enhancements were completed:
- Installation of:
- seven modular classrooms
- two PE changing rooms
- internal improvements to:
- the Craft, Design and Technology department
- PE changing areas
- the Additional Support Needs department
Stakeholder group
A Stakeholder group was established, and an initial meeting took place in February 2021.

Latest update – pre-planning application event
A public consultation event, with presentations at 4:30pm and 6pm was held at Culloden Academy on 17 November 2022. A further online event was held on MS Teams at 6pm on 22 November 2022.
