Following the conclusion of a statutory consultation process in 2018, we agreed to establish a new primary school in Inverness to serve the Ness Castle and Ness-Side housing developments on a reserved site at Ness Castle. The school is located on a dedicated site at Ness Castle and has been thoughtfully designed to expand in phases, ensuring it can meet future demand as the local area continues to develop.
Phase one of the project included the creation of:
- up to 12 classrooms
- nursery accommodation
The full build will eventually accommodate up to 24 classrooms.
Kier Construction were appointed as the design and build contractor for the first phase, working closely with our in-house Property teams to deliver the project.
Construction work began in May 2021, but progress was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and other unforeseen challenges. To ensure continuity of education, an interim solution was implemented in August 2022, with Ness Castle Primary School temporarily operating from the Holm Primary School campus using a mix of existing classrooms and modular units.
The new building was handed over to us in January 2023 and opened to pupils and staff on Monday 27 February 2023.
