Highland winter road conditions report – Thursday, 23 February 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Thursday, 23 February 2023 are as follows:

Sutherland – (as at 07:47)
Mainly dry but frosty this morning.  Selected routes being patrolled and treated as necessary.

Lochaber – (as at 08:16)
Damp roads this morning with temperatures around zero in places but slightly milder in the west of the area.  All primary routes treated. No issues reported overnight.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 06:43)
Primary routes treated last night in advance of overnight hoar frost.  Positive road temperatures this morning.  No overnight issues to report.

Caithness (as at 08:06)
Low temperatures this morning, with some parts icy where showers have been.  Other routes dry with white frosts at sides of carriageway.  No issues reported.

Easter Ross (as at 07:47)
Grey frost in verges, but roads otherwise dry.  No issues reported overnight.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:40)
Wet roads with the odd icy patch in the areas.  Primary routes being treated due to negative temperatures.  No known overnight issues.

Nairn (as at 07:39)
Wet roads with the odd frost patch on higher routes.  Primary routes being treated throughout the area as a precaution due to negative road surface temperatures.

Inverness (as at 07:37)

Roads mainly dry this morning with some low road surface temperatures.  Treating higher primary routes.  No known issues.
