Highland winter road conditions report – Tuesday 14 March 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Tuesday 14 March are as follows:

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 08:54)
There is snow and ice over all roads in Ward 5 this morning. All routes are passable with care. No reported overnight issues. Treatment is ongoing.

Lochaber – (as at 08:46)
Ice and snow on all routes this morning and treatment is ongoing, No problems overnight. Heavy snow is affecting West Lochaber. Mallaig High School is closed and drivers are advised to travel with caution.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:32)
Snow showers with 2-4 inches of snow throughout area. Treatment ongoing on Primary and Secondary Routes.

Sutherland – (as at 08:23)
All routes affected with 1-2 inches of snow cover on the low ground and up to 5"- 6" on the higher routes. Some drifting up to 12" on some inland routes. Treatment ongoing. No known overnight issues.

Caithness (as at 08:06)
Light covering of snow across all routes, not enough to blade. Treating all routes as required. No other issues to report.

Nairn (as at 08:05)
Negative temperatures and a light dusting of snow overnight on all routes. All routes are being treated and no known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 08:04)
Negative temperatures and a light dusting of snow overnight on all routes. All routes are being treated and no known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty East (as at 06:16)
A light covering of snow and negative temperatures at 6am. All routes being treated.

Inverness – (as at 06:04)
Low roads are dry / damp with grey frost in places. Dusting of snow and icy at old snow melt on high roads. Gritters heading off to treat all routes.
