Highland winter road conditions report – Wednesday 15 March 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Wednesday 15 March are as follows:

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 08:54)
Some snow across higher routes this morning. All roads are passable. No reported overnight issues. Treatment is ongoing.

Sutherland – (as at 08:29)
Damp roads throughout with the odd icy patch in sheltered areas. Secondary routes treated as resources permit. No known overnight issues.

Skye and Lochalsh (as at 08:24)
Cold night with localised dusting of snow. Treatment ongoing on Primary, Secondary and Other Routes as required.

Lochaber – (as at 08:18)
Icy overnight conditions with a covering of wet snow on all routes. Treatment will be ongoing throughout the day.

Caithness (as at 08:12)
Mainly dry roads with an occasional icy patch on most of the routes. Some small isolated drifts of snow in the North West of the county. All routes being treated as required. No other issues to report.

Nairn (as at 07:46)
Dry roads throughout the area with negative temperatures. No winter action needed and no known overnight issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:42)
Cold but dry throughout the area this morning. No winter action needed and no known overnight issues.

Ross and Cromarty East (as at 06:24)
Cold but dry this morning. Priority 1 roads good but patchy ice and frozen snow on some elevated side roads. All routes are being checked and treated as necessary.

Inverness – (as at 06:04)
Low roads are dry. Icy patches from yesterday's snow melt on high roads and still some old frozen snow between wheel tracks on some high roads. Gritters heading off to treat all routes.
