Bidh Cupa Iomain na h-Òige a’ gabhail àite gach bliadhna agus ’s e ceann-latha cudromach a th’ ann air a’ mhìosachan neo-churraicealach do chloinn a tha a’ frithealadh Foghlam tron Ghàidhlig. Tha an tachartas a’ toirt cothrom do chloinn a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachdadh ann an àrainneachd spòrs.

Bhuannaich Sgioba Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh E Duais Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd airson a bhith sàr-mhath a’ cleachdadh na Gàidhlig, chan ann a-mhàin air an raon-chluiche ach tron latha air fad. Tha Cupa Iomain na h-Òige a’ faighinn maoineachadh bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig. Tha e air a lìbhrigeadh mar chom-pàirteachas eadar Iomain Cholm Cille agus Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd, le taic a bharrachd bho oifigearan leasachaidh Chomann na Camanachd. Thug Oifigear Leasachaidh Gàidhlig Chomunn na Camanachd, Rut Ghòrdan, seachad taic aig cuairt an Eilein Sgitheanaich dhen fharpais cuideachd.

Thuirt Eòghan Stiùbhart, Co-òrdanaiche Iomain Cholm Cille, “Tha sinn a’ cur luach mòr air a’ chom-pàirteachas le Sgioba Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus tha sinn fìor thoilichte a bhith ag obair còmhla ri Comann na Camanachd gus an tachartas a chur air dòigh. Tha sinn cuideachd a’ toirt taing do Chamanachd an Eilein Sgitheanaich airson aoigheachd a thoirt dhan tachartas.” Lean e air adhart, “Thèid an ath chuairt de Chupa Iomain na h-Òige a chumail ann an Srath Pheofhair air an 12 dhen Chèitean.”

Thuirt an Comhairliche Calum Rothach, Cathraiche Comataidh Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, “Bha mi fìor thoilichte a bhith an làthair air an latha airson na duaisean a thoirt seachad dhan òigridh.” Lean e air adhart, “Tha e cudromach gun cùm sinn a’ dol a’ toirt seachad chothroman spòrs agus tachartasan measgaichte is tarraingeach a bhrosnaicheas slàinte is sunnd am measg na h-òigridh taobh a-muigh an t-seòmair-theagaisg agus far am bi cothrom aca a’ Ghàidhlig a chleachdadh. Tha Cupa Iomain na h-Òige na dheagh eisimpleir dhen a seo.”

Thuirt an Comhairliche Rothach cuideachd, “Chaidh farpais Cupa Iomain na h-Òige a chumail san Eilean Sgitheanach air an aon latha ri ceann-latha dùnaidh co-chomhairleachadh poblach ceathramh Plana Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. Mar sin, tha mi cuideachd airson cothrom a ghabhail taing a thoirt do na buidhnean, na sgoilearan, na tidsearan, na buidhnean coimhearsnachd is na daoine fa leth a thàinig gu na tachartasan co-chomhairleachaidh ann an Inbhir Nis, ann am Port Rìgh is sa Ghearasdan agus a thug seachad beachdan is molaidhean fìor chuideachail a thaobh a bhith ag ùrachadh Plana Gàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd. Tha mi cuideachd airson taing a thoirt dhan a h-uile duine a chuir seachad ùine a’ cur a-steach freagairtean air-loidhne ron cheann-latha air 21 dhen Ghiblean.”

The Cupa Iomain na h-Òige Shinty festival is a regular feature on the extra-curricular calendar for children attending Gaelic Medium Education which provides Gaelic speaking youngsters equity and usage opportunities within the sporting environment.

The combined Sgoil Stafainn/Sgoil Chill Mhoire team won the competition and Cupa Bhòrd na Gàidhlig on penalties against Port Rìgh A, with 8 teams from four schools competing. Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh E were awarded the Duais Ghàidhlig Chomhairle na Gàidhealtachd, Highland Council Gaelic Award for exceptional use of Gaelic on the day both on and off the pitch. Almost 100 children and young people were involved in the day.

Cupa Iomain na h-Òige is supported by funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. It is delivered as a partnership by Iomain Cholmcille and Highland Council, with additional support from Camanachd Association Development Officers. The Skye round of Cupa Iomain na h-Òige was also supported by the Camanachd Association’s Gaelic Development Officer, Ruth Gordon.

Eoghan Stewart, Co-ordinator for Iomain Cholmcille said, “We highly value the partnership with Highland Council Gaelic Team, and we are very happy to work with the Camanachd Association to organise the event and to Skye Camanachd for hosting the event.”

He continued, “The next round of Cupa Iomain na h-Òige will be held in Strathpeffer on the 12th of May.”

Councillor Calum Munro Chair of Highland Council Gaelic Committee said, “I was delighted to be present on the day to present the awards to the young people.”

He continued, “It is important that we continue to provide diverse, engaging, health and wellbeing events and sporting opportunities out with the classroom for the young people to use Gaelic, Cupa Iomain na h-Òige is an excellent example of this.”

Councillor Munro also highlighted that, “The Cupa Iomain na h-Òige event in Skye took place on the same day as the official closing date of the Council’s public consultation on the fourth iteration of its Gaelic Language Plan, therefore I also wish to take this opportunity to thank the organisations, pupils, teachers, community groups and individuals who attended the consultation events in Inverness, Portree and Fort William for your input, very constructive suggestions and recommendations regarding the refresh of the Highland Council’s Gaelic Language Plan. I also wish to add my thanks to all who took the time to submit online responses by the closing date of April 21st.”
