Five new homes at Badenoch House Kingussie completed

Badenoch house developmen

The Highland Council has recently (Wednesday 28 June 2023) taken possession of five new housing properties at Badenoch House, Kingussie. The redevelopment of a former Bank House will significantly enhance the town centre and provide much needed affordable, quality housing in the heart of the Speyside town.

Housing and Property Committee Chair, Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair said: “Demand for affordable one and two bedroom properties in the Badenoch and Strathspey area remains high, and the redevelopment of a former Bank House in this prime location will go some way to improving the availability of this type of accommodation.

“A key element to delivering more affordable homes is the availability of suitable land, therefore the housing development team continually use flexible and innovative ways to utilise existing structures and footprints to create affordable solutions. The Highland Council, alongside partners, will continue to work to build a portfolio of affordable housing stock across Highland.”

Badenoch and Strathspey Committee Chair, Councillor Russell Jones said: “It is fantastic to see Badenoch House positioned in a prominent High Street position of Kingussie, redeveloped to five new homes for Council rent.  Utilising the former ‘Bank House’ building, the five flats are finished to a very high standard.  I’d like to thank all the project team involved in delivering the development and I wish all the new tenants all the best in their new homes.”

IBI Managing Director, Brian Innes said: “It has been a great project to be involved in with the Council and design team.  Constructing off a main trunk road presented challenges and I thank the affected local businesses and residents for their understanding throughout the works, and special thanks to all the staff at Caberfeidh Horizons Centre.

“IBI Ltd, look forward to working with The Highland Council on future developments in the town and surrounding area.”

The five, one and two-bedroom flats have been designed by Les Hutt Architects and built by IBI Ltd along with McLeod & Aitken and Pick Everard.

All five flats will be for rent by the Council to people on the Highland Housing Register (HHR) and tenants will be moving in shortly.

The development has been funded by The Highland Council and the Scottish Government.
