Caol resurfacing works to start

Update 18 September 2023:  Please note the update at the foot of this news release reflecting an adjustment to the planned traffic management between Blar Mhor Road and Torlundy Road for the remainder of the week.

The Highland Council is advising the public that the local roads team in Lochaber will be carrying out resurfacing works in Caol starting on Monday (18 September 2023)

The planed improvement works on Kilmallie Road will start next week and follow engagement with the community and local stakeholders.

The affected section is from the shopping area access at Glenloy Street to Ardgour Street (adjacent to the Lochy Bar). The works will require a sequence of lane closures and traffic light controlled sections with convoy vehicles to protect the workforce.

A weight restriction to vehicles exceeding 3.5T will be in place daily between the hours of 9am and 5pm. This will affect buses, lorries including HGV’s and other vehicles from Monday for a period of a week. Alternative bus routes will be in operation during the affected period. Out with the prescribed times of 9am - 5pm bus services and stops will operate as normal.

Pedestrian, cyclist and mobility impaired traffic, as well as any emergency services traffic, will be accommodated.

The Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused these road improvement works.

Update 18 September 2023:

From Tuesday, when operatives are resurfacing the section between Blar Mhor Road and Torlundy Road, this section of road is required to be completely free of traffic.

To achieve this, a temporary closure with amnesties for this section will be put in place for the prescribed timescales.

This will be achieved via the Section 39 procedure to reduce consultation timescales, and will be in place between 09:00and 17:00 each day from Tuesday 19/09/2023 until the end of the week.

All other information regarding timescales, bus restrictions and activity durations will remain unchanged, as will emergency and pedestrian/cyclist access arrangements.
