Highland Road Conditions Report – Friday, 29 December 2023

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Friday, 29 December 2023 are as follows:

Easter Ross
09:57 - No issues on Primary & Secondary routes as temperatures higher than forecast.  Damp roads but no issues reported.

Skye and Raasay
07:47 – Milder than forecast with variable road temperatures across network.  Minus 0.4C currently in Skeabost.  South Skye treatments being stood down upon completion of Primary and Secondary routes.  Treatments ongoing in north Skye pending a lift in road temperatures.  No overnight issues to report.

Caithness

07:59 – Marginal temperatures on all routes this morning, so treating all primary and secondary routes as a precaution.  Mainly damp and wet roads and only an odd icy stretch reported.  No other known issues to report.

Wester Ross
10:38 - Damp roads on most routes, no issues reported.  Snow showers Bealach and Braemore to Dundonnel – treatment ongoing.  No overnight issues reported.

Badenoch and Strathspey
08:34 – Roads generally wet.  Some marginal temperatures on higher routes.  Precautionary treatment ahead of forecasted overnight frost to reinforce salt levels.  No known problems.

Sutherland
08:22 - Generally wet roads with a sparkle on them away from the coasts.  Wintry showers turning more to snow which is starting to lie giving a slight covering on the highest routes.  Treatment continuing.

Nairn
08:34 – Roads generally wet.  Some marginal temperatures on higher routes.  Precautionary treatment ahead of forecasted overnight frost to reinforce salt levels.  No known problems.
