Highland Road Conditions Report – Monday, 8 January 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Monday, 8 January 2024 are as follows:

Badenoch and Strathspey
08:24 - Cold dry conditions.  Widespread frost and ice.  Treating all routes by priority.

Nairn
08:17 - Cold dry conditions.  Frost and ice.  Treating all routes by priority.

Easter Ross-shire
07:46 - Very cold but dry overnight.  Priority 1 and 2 roads are all good due to high residual salt levels from yesterday.  All routes are being treated today but caution is advised on any untreated surfaces.

Caithness
08:22 - White frost with good sparkle in areas.  Routes getting treated due to low road surface temperatures this morning.  No overnight issues reported.

Sutherland
08:06 – All routes affected by a sharp hoar frost, with some icy stretches.   All routes currently being treated in order of priority. No known issues.

Skye and Raasay
08:23 - Frosty morning with road surface temperatures well below zero.  Treatment ongoing on Primary and Secondary routes.  No issues reported overnight.

Inverness
06:28 - Dry overhead but roads damp and road surface temperatures low.  Caution advised on any untreated surfaces this morning.  Covering all routes and footpaths as per policy.  No known issues.

Lochaber

09:26 - Low road surface temperatures of between -3 to -6°C reported.  Some icy patches, damp roads.  "Other" Routes now being treated due to temperatures which are not forecast to rise today.
