Highland Road Conditions Report – Friday 12 January 2024

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.  It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Highland Road Conditions Reports for Friday 12 January 2024 are as follows:

Ross & Cromarty - East Group
09:27 - No issues. Temperatures are slightly below zero but roads drying out and visible salt from evening treatment. All primary and Secondary routes treated along with Higher others. No reported overnight issues.

Ward 5 Wester Ross
08: 41 - Slightly higher temperatures than forecast. Treatment on-going. There were no reported overnight issues.

Lochaber
08:34 - Treatment underway as planned. Some areas temperatures are higher than forecast. No overnight issues.

Caithness
0756 - Temperatures higher than forecast. Main roads patrolled as a precaution with drivers reporting a mix of dry and damp roads. No known overnight issues to report.

Sutherland
07:50 – Road surface temperatures below zero in places. Mainly damp roads reported, but icy in some sheltered areas. All routes currently being treated. No known issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey
07:20 - Negative road surface temperatures across the whole network with ice and frost. All routes are being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.

Nairn
07:19 - Negative road surface temperatures this morning with frost patches across the network. All routes being treated this morning as well as foot paths.

Skye and Raasay
07:17 - Minus road temperatures across area, but significantly milder than of late. Treatments running on primary and secondary routes. No overnight issues to report.
 

At the time of issue, there are no schools or nurseries closed today as a result of bad weather. Our school closure webpage is updated from 8am and cleared by 6pm each evening.
