The Chair of Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee has thanked the local authority’s roads operations teams as they continue to manage routes across Highland’s large roads network during challenging weather conditions.

Cllr Ken Gowans said: “The challenging winter weather over the past week has caused considerable disruption to our communities, schools and businesses.

“Our roads operations teams venture into cold, dark, and often dangerous conditions well before most of us are awake, to make travel safer for our wider communities and support our emergency services by clearing life-line routes.

“I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to every member of the team who are out gritting and clearing snow and ice from roads all across Highland. I am also grateful to the many people who have shown their support and thanks to our teams on social media, it really does make all the difference.”

He added: “With further bad weather expected this coming weekend as Storm Isha approaches, I urge individuals to please continue to follow travel advice from Police Scotland and to check ahead for road conditions and any disruptions to planned routes.”

Weather warnings for snow, rain and ice are in place in areas of Highland over the next few days. Information on weather warnings are available on the Met Office website.
