Corran Ferry service - Maid of Glencoul refit update 19 August 2025
The Maid of Glencoul dry dock refit overhaul is almost complete and subject to a final warranty repair to be undertaken this week; it is expected that MCA sea trials and commissioning of the vessel will follow. Once completed and the licence renewed, the Maid of Glencoul will make her way back to Ardgour as a relief vessel for the MV Corran. The expected timeframe for her return is early September and public messaging will follow once she is anchored in Ardgour and fully returned to relief duties.
Economy and Infrastructure Chair, Cllr Ken Gowans said: “The Highland Council regrets the reduction to service, the additional journey time and the impact the delay in the Maid of Glencoul’s return has caused the public and businesses during the recent 5-day outage of the MV Corran due to Storm Floris and a subsequent steering fault.
“The service is working to expedite the Maid of Glencoul’s completion as we are acutely aware of the need for resilience and a support vessel for the service.
“The overhaul has included regulatory improvements that extended the programme under The Merchant Shipping (Safety Standards for Passenger Ships on Domestic Voyages) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2022, also known as the "Grandfather Rights" Regulations, requiring mandatory safety works to be completed during this refit, and completes the significant investment to ensure the Maid of Glencoul can continue to serve the community over the coming years.”
Cllr Gowans added: “The Corran Ferry crew has been exceptional during really challenging circumstances and without waver they continue to work tirelessly to bring the Maid of Glencoul back home, I would like to thank them for their long-standing commitment and dedication.”
