As part of the Highland Investment Plan (HIP), The Highland Council has recently appointed Morgan Sindall as preferred contractor to build the new Broadford Primary School.

Education Committee and Skye and Raasay Area Committee Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “We are delighted to reach yet another milestone in the development of a new school here on Skye. The school build is part of a masterplan investment that will change the way council services are delivered through a new collaborative operating model.

“This has been a huge collaborative effort to get to this stage, and all involved should be proud of their efforts. The new Broadford Primary School and community sports pitch which is being developed by The South Skye Community Campus group will bring much improved learning and community facilities to Skye. We look forward with optimism to watch both developments progress and eagerly await the time when we can welcome pupils and staff into their new modern, efficient learning environment.”

During the second stage of the process, Morgan Sindall will work with the Council’s project team to finalise the contract sum by November 2025. The Stage 2 contract award will support a site start by December 2025, which would see completion of the new building by Spring/Summer 2027.

The project is one of three Highland Council projects included in the Scottish Government ‘s Learning Estate Investment Programme (LEIP) which focusses on delivering high quality, suitable, sustainable, low carbon, and digitally enabled learning environments. The building has been designed to Passivhaus classic standard to ensure that the funding outcomes required for the LEIP revenue funding will be achieved.

The Council’s Learning Estate Strategy (LES) aligns with the local priorities set out within the Highland Investment Plan (HIP) vision for developing its learning estate.
