Members of Highland Council’s Isle of Skye and Raasay Committee have today (Monday 1 September) agreed to approve Community Regeneration Funding of £107,696.50 for three local projects.

The awards will support the following organisations:

  • Dunvegan Community Trust SCIO - £49,814.50

The funding will help the group purchase a new community minibus for North West Skye and to embark on a training programme which will future proof the service currently offered to local groups.

  • Broadford and Strath Community Company (BSCC) - £50,000

The money will go towards the Camping Skye and BSCC Renewables Project, helping to purchase and install a heat recovery system, solar PV and battery storage, as well as passive and LED lighting. The project will support BSCC's net zero ambitions and will also reduce costs for Camping Skye.

  • Skye and Lochalsh Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) - £7,882.00

This project will purchase equipment required for the new office as well as a branded gazebo and uniforms for attending events and increasing awareness of CAB services across Skye.

Chair of Skye and Raasay Area Committee, Cllr John Finlayson, said: “These funds will help locally led organisations to make a real difference in their communities.

“In various ways they help increase community resilience, address issues of poverty and inequality and tackle the climate emergency as we work towards net zero.”

Members also agreed that they would approve an award of £200,000 of Community Regeneration Funding to the South Skye Community Campus Phase One project at Broadford, subject to approval of the funding application submitted for consideration to the Scottish Government’s Islands Programme 25/26.

Community Regeneration Funding is an umbrella term for several funds that are available for communities/organisations to access in Highland.

It currently comprises the Highland Coastal Communities Fund and the Place Based Investment Programme, both of which are Scottish Government Funding streams to support economic regeneration and sustainable development in Highland.

Area Committees are awarded devolved allocations according to approved formulae. Decision making on which projects should receive funding sits with elected members.

The report on the applications for CRF funding in the ward can be found here (item 9).
