Later this month (20 October 2025), restoration work on the Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial Tower in Dingwall will commence as part of an investment project managed by The Highland Council and in collaboration with the Dingwall Community Development Company.

The contract has been awarded to Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd and the significant investment on this B-listed building will include roof works, internal steelwork and floor supports, and electrical upgrades throughout.

Councillor Graham MacKenzie, Chair of the Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee, welcomed the upcoming restoration work and said:  "I am delighted that work is due to get underway on the Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial Tower which is iconic to both Dingwall and its residents.  This marks a significant investment in the memorial and underlines our commitment to preserving local heritage and fostering community pride.  The restoration will play a key role in ensuring the future of this historic building for the community and generations to come.”

Funding for the work was agreed by members of the Dingwall and Seaforth Committee earlier this year through the Community Regeneration Fund.

This funding, part of the Place Based Investment Programme (PBIP) provided by The Scottish Government, aims to support economic regeneration and sustainable development in the Highland region.

The decision to allocate this funding was made following a thorough review of potential projects in the Dingwall and Seaforth area. The Sir Hector MacDonald Memorial emerged as a priority due to its strategic importance and strong community support.

Upon completion of the works, the Dingwall Community Development Company will take possession of the memorial tower and oversee the asset.
